The Club has learned from North Shore Cycling Advocates that the Highland Park Police will be conducting enforcement from May 22-31 focused on cyclist behavior and cars passing cyclists improperly. It certainly is a positive sign that passing clearance is at least mentioned, but there's no way to know in advance whether this means anything in reality. Nor does it appear that distracted driving is part of the enforcement focus, at least not now - and overall that's a much bigger concern for cyclists.
Nevertheless, as always, be alert to your surroundings, and remember that our group riding behavior can affect public opinion, both positively and negatively. If you learn that other North Shore communities may also be stepping up enforcement in regard to cycling in the coming weeks, post something about it on a club forum.
