The best way to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder is to raise a middle finger to the cold and the darkness which cannot be seen anyway since you are likely wearing a lobster glove. Take that glove and that finger and get on your bike when it is pitch black outside and the healing will begin. Two seasonal and therapeutic bike rides are coming up.
1. This Friday, December 15 is the Amlings Toy Ride. This is a remote start from Amlings Cycling, 8140 N. Milwaukee, Niles. You need to register for this ride. at http://toyridechicago.com/. Bring a toy and make sure you have your handwarmers and balaclava. We ride slow but we ride with good cheer and a police escort. After we drop off the toys we are treated to breakfast at Corcorans on Wells. The ride starts at 6:30 am. I will have a sign up sheet at the bike shop and will likely also be hawking raffle tickets before we ride.
2. Saturday, December 23 is the EBC ride to the Winter Solstice Percussion Concert. I just bought my ticket. This is also a remote start at Dunkin' Donuts at the corner of Howard and Western. We leave at 5 am sharp (no grace period) and head straight down Western to make sure we get seats for the 6 am show. This is one of the few times when it is safe to ride on Western. We will return by a different route after the world has gotten out of bed. You can get tickets at www.linkshall.org.
Come ride with us.
