Skokie Bike Infrastructure Improvements
Author Last Post
This is all terrific. I did not see anything about the bike lane on Crawford going most of the length of the village. I hope that is still on track.
Thanks for the update,
Earl

2023 Improvements

Gross Point and Grant Proposed improvements

New bikes lanes on Gross Point Road (Golf to Old Orchard) – Beginning in mid-June, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will begin a road reconstruction project on Gross Point Road, including adding new dedicated bike lanes on each side of the roadway. The project is expected to be substantially complete in late fall, with minor work remaining in 2024.

Extension of the Skokie Valley Trail (Dempster to Golf) – The Village will add more than a mile of multi-use pathway to the Skokie Valley Trail, completing a critical connection on this popular trail between Dempster Street and Golf Road. The project is currently in the design and land acquisition phase.

Skokie Valley Trail crossing improvements at Main Street/Niles Center Road – This project will create an improved bike and pedestrian crossing on the Skokie Valley Trail at Main Street and Niles Center Road, adding a marked crossing and median refuge.

New bikes lanes on Church Street (McCormick to Linder Avenues) – The Village will add on-street bike lanes on Church Street, creating another east to west bikeway across Skokie. The project will include widening the street in some locations and traffic signal modifications.

2025 Improvements

New bike lanes and roadway resurfacing on Oakton Street (McCormick to Kilpatrick) – This section of Oakton Street is owned and maintained by Cook County. The Village is in communication with the County on their roadway resurfacing project, which will include the addition of dedicated bike lanes. This project is currently in the planning phase.

Construction of Old Orchard Multi-Use Path (Skokie Boulevard to Skokie Valley Trail at Lockwood) – This project will complete the connection of the Old Orchard Multi-Use Path from Gross Point Road to the Skokie Valley Trail.

Extension of the Skokie Valley Trail (Old Orchard to north Village limits) – The Village is coordinating with northern Cook County municipalities to extend the Skokie Valley Trail to Lake County. To complete the connection in Skokie, the Village will be adding less than a mile of multi-use pathway from Old Orchard Road to the north Village limits. Once complete, the Skokie Valley Trail will span the Village from south to north.
