City of Evanston Meeting on Chicago Avenue Project...
Author Last Post

The City of Evanston will host a meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 10 at the Robert Crown Center, 1801 Main Street, on proposed improvements to Chicago Avenue in central and south Evanston. The planned project includes extending the two-way protected bike lanes on Chicago Avenue that now end at Davis Street south to Howard Street. Local media have reported that there are objections to the plan from area merchants and residents concerned about the potential loss of parking. The Evanston Transit Alliance, a local group that advocates for improved bicycle, pedestrian and public transit infrastructure, is urging support for including the protected bike lanes in the project.

Following is the information on the meeting from the city:

The City invites you to a community meeting about the Chicago Avenue Project from Howard to Davis Street.

The project aims to enhance safety and comfort for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The meeting will focus on parking impacts along the corridor. Attendees can view concept plans and exhibit boards, and city staff will be available to collect feedback and answer questions.

Information on the project is available at:

The site includes a mechanism to submit feedback on the project. However, the city’s website does not include the materials that will be presented at the public meeting next week. A city official said the website will be updated with the new information after the meeting.
