Barrington Hills Moderate Ride – Saturday, June 28 -- 8:00 AM – Panera
If much of this announcement seems familiar, it’s because the ride was originally announced for last Saturday, but then postponed because of the heat advisory.
I’ll be leading a 75-mile moderate ride through Barrington Hills this Saturday. This is an excellent training opportunity for riders interested in the Moderate Century scheduled for July 5th. It is also a fun route with lots of great scenery. Not interested in riding 75--miles? Join us instead at Anetsberger Golf Course in Northbrook and make it a 55-mile ride (more or less). We should arrive at the Anetsberger washroom facility between 9:00 and 9:15 AM.
This will be a moderate (13 – 15 mph) ride. Perhaps a tad faster on downhills and long stretches with a tail wind. Definitely slower on the climbs. Yes, there are hills on this route. Mostly rolling hills, where you can get some benefit from momentum, but there are some challenging hills as well. No moderate riders will be dropped on the climbs. In fact, the ride leader on a recumbent is likely to be near the back of the pack on the longer climbs. We will regroup after the climbs.
Here is a link to the route that I will be using more or less: Barrington 75 · Ride with GPS. Because of road work on Pauline Ave, we will take Highland Grove Drive down to Deerfield Parkway after our Culver’s rest stop.
The weather forecast for Saturday is in the pleasant range. Sunshine with some cloudy intervals with a high temperature of 82 degrees. The winds will be from the east at a relatively moderate 5 to 10 mph. Nonetheless it will still be a good idea to carry and drink plenty of water and to wear sunscreen.
