Rides

June 5, 2026 Brewpub Ride @2 - Old Irving Park Bre...
The second installment of the 2026 Brewpub series is a trip through the city to Old Irving Brewing Co ("OIB").  The precise address of our destination is 4419 West Montrose, Chicago, IL  60641.  Estimated distance for this ride is 21 miles.  Since the kitchen opens at noon, we will ride on the leisurely side of moderate going south; the route that we shall take is here: Brewpub Ride #2 - Old Irving Brewing Co., from Chandler - return via Forest Glen

Dining Notes:  Over the past several years, I've found the brewpub kitchen at OIB to be one of the best, and most underrated, among the city's options.  I will attest that their beet salad (lacto-ovo vegetarian) would stand up to any Michelin one star restaurant's in the city.  Burgers are also well prepared; there are interesting specials, including a creative mac and cheese, and one can also go upscale.  Last year when we visited, there was uniform praise for the food.

That said, be aware that menu prices are a touch higher than its competitors, but arguably worth the expense.  I've provided a link below to their menu, which also includes the comprehensive list of their beers, and their extensive cocktail and whiskey menu.

I also want to reemphasize a point - it is NOT necessary to consume alcohol to enjoy the brewpub rides.  The food here more than justifies annual visits here.

Beer Notes:

OIB has a broad selection of beers.

If you are fan of German styles, the Della, a classic Kolsch, is accessible and tasty.  There is also a solid larger called Sonne available.  If you are a fan of hazy IPA, the Beezer is extremely well regarded in brewing circles.  If you are a fan of sours, there are two currently on the menu.  My personal favorite at OIB is Long Forgotten, a Kentucky Common.  If you were a devotee of the late, lamented Anchor Steam Beer, Long Forgotten is a brew that very closely approaches that style and flavor profile. (Disclosure: Long Forgotten is ALWAYS in my refrigerator.)

It is also worth noting that if you cannot decide, OIB will let you build your own sampler by choosing 5 ounce samples.  Several of our riders last year built samplers, and then ordered another full sized of their favorite choice.  That is a great way to broaden your beer palate!

As of this writing, the weather appears favorable.  If things take a turn for the worse, I will post an announcement by 9 a.m., and if weather discourages a ride, I will suggest a zero mile alternative for the serious beer drinkers among us.
