Please refrain from confirming that you have registered for this issue. I am including additional information I received from Bike Walk Wilmette on how to fill out the form. Today, March 1st, is the last day that you will be able to register.

Wilmette Bike and Walk Plan Approved! More help needed!
Welcome to:
Bike Walk Wilmette
Making Wilmette a better place to bike and walk.
Active Transportation Plan Approved!!
The Wilmette Village Board of Trustees
approved
the Master Bike and Active Transportation Plan on February 23rd. With this important step, Wilmette is on its way to better, safer biking and walking. Thank you for your supportive emails and advocacy. It makes a difference!
Action Alert: Your Help Needed!
Take a few minutes to support a state bill that would improve safety for people walking and biking.
The bill (House Bill 270) would eliminate the cost municipalities are required to pay to include walking and biking infrastructure on state roads.
For most roads, when the state is rebuilding a road, the state covers 100 percent of the cost of infrastructure for car and trucks, such as travel lanes and markings. But if the state’s analysis determines a sidewalk, side path, or bike lane should be added and there’s community support for it, then the local community is required to cover 20 percent of the cost.
This issue creates many missed opportunities throughout the state! Our friends at Active Transportation Alliance have provided a
fact sheet
about the bill and a
blog post
with more details.
To show your support for HB270 and more walkable, bikeable state roads, please
fill out a witness slip as a proponent of the bill by Monday, March 1.
A few tips for filling out a witness slip:
Identification:
If you are representing an organization as an employee, include the name in the “firm/business” field. If you are not representing an organization as an employee, add “self.“
Representation:
If you are representing a group, organization, or business, also add the name here. Make sure you have permission to do this! Otherwise, type “self” or “n/a.”
Position:
If you support the bill, select “proponent.”
Testimony:
Choose “record of appearance only,” agree to the terms, and then click “create slip.”
Confirmation:
Once your witness slip is submitted, you’ll see a confirmation message and receive an email.
Thank you for your support. Many municipalities say that this bill could have a HUGE impact on bringing safer walking and biking to their communities.
