Petition in Support of Restoration
of the Green Bay Trail

On the evening of March 15, the Village of Glencoe's Board of Trustees will hear arguments for and against aplan for restorationof a portion of the Green Bay Trail developed by the Friends of the Green Bay Trail. The land is owned by the Village of Glencoe and the Glencoe Park District.

The Friends have raised and committed $100,000 to restore the portion of the Trail extending south of South Avenue to the Glencoe Community Garden. We have also benefited from consultation withthe Chicago Botanic Gardens on the particular native plants that will thrive in the area and received commitments of “in-kind” work from the Village and the Park District.

Although the Plan previously received support both from Village and Park District, a small group of residents is now asking that the project be stopped.

The Friends would like to ask for your support in asking the Village to move forward. We have developed a plan that is scientifically sound, have raised the necessary funds, and have secured all the rights needed. At best, any delay will only postpone the community's ability to reap the benefits of the restoration. In truth, "delay" may be synonymous with "stop".
